The first of two games from this match - this is the board 1 game, where I had White against Alan Petrie.

Anderson, GPetrie, A1–0Grangemouth B v Stirling BGrangemouth CC23.02.2023
1.e4 b6 2.d4 b7 3.d3 e6 4.f3 f6 5.e5 d5 6.a3 c5 7.c3 c6 It's here I started thinking about c4. 8 c4 Nc7 or e7 9 d5 exd5 10 cxd5 Nxd5 11 Bc4 Nce7 and I can't see that this is worth a pawn. 8.0-0 f5 I'm still not entirely sure that the c4 plan is solid, but with the pawn on f5 at least I don't lose a pawn. 9.c4 c7 10.d5 exd5 11.cxd5 xd5 12.xf5 de7 Alan thought afterwards that Nce7 may have been better. Stockfish is undecided. 13.g5 c7 14.h3 h6 15.h4 g5 16.g3 0-0-0 17.c3 a6 I'm still trying to work out how to make e6 work, and how to reply to d6. Should I just ignore the rook attack? Stockfish is screaming Qa4. 18.e1 b7 19.e4 g8 20.d6+ a8 21.a4 d3 22.ad1 h7 I've been trying to work out the best time to play e6 - Stockfish says now. I, on the other hand, still can't work out to reply after d6. 23.f7 g4 24.xg4 xg4 25.xg4 f5 Stockfish still recommends e6 for White. 26.a4 e8 27.e6 Black resigns. There aren't many good option here. Qb7 or Qc8 falls to Nd6 and the loss of the scond rook, still with the threat of exd7. Stockfish recommends b5 Qxb5 Qb6 Qxb6 axb6 exd7 which loses a bishop. 1–0

Thanks to Sean for the game below from board 5, where he had White against young Nicholas.

With that off the board and the bishop on g2 supporting I couldn't see a way black could stop a promotion without sacking 30.a6 b6 31.xb8+ xb8 32.xb8 30...b5 31.xb2 xb2 32.a4 f8 33.a5 a3 34.a6 Black resigns. 1–0
