The second qualifier for the Richardson Cup (club championship) between Bill Cook and Dave Hewitt was played last Monday. The game is below (thanks to Dave). As winner, Bill progresses to meet John Blake for the final place in the Richardson Cup.

Monday night saw the first qualifying game between John Blake and Tony Pitson. Tony lost on time, with 5 moves to make before the time control, struggling against John's pressure on f5. John now plays the winner of the Bill Cook - Dave Hewitt match.

An exciting match which could have gone either way. Steve drew from a rook down (with a perpetual check that could only be stopped by giving back the rook, which would have left Steve up three pawns). I snatched a draw in time-trouble, by forcing perpetual check. Dave won a fine endgame against Ian. David apparently lost after being a rook up.
The first game below is my effort from board 3, where I had White against John Smith. I stopped recording at move 34, having less than five minutes left. 42 Qd3 was my saviour, if I didn;t have that it was certain defeat.

A good point for the C team, in a match where they were outgraded on all boards. Mick's win on board 5 secured the match point for the C team, in a tough rook and pawn ending where he was well down on time. David's win came first, followed by Craig's draw, but Dunfermline pulled themselves back into the match with wins from Ben and Bryan.
