On board 2 as White, I managed to get to here after 28 ... b5. I quite liked my position, but went wrong with 29 Ng2. The whole point of putting the knight on h4 had been to prevent Nf5. The game continued 29 Ng2 Nf5 and I then had to decision to make - lose a piece or lose the exchange. Compounding the error, I chose to let Kevin decide what he wanted by playing 30 Rae1. Kevin, unsurprisingly, chose to take the bishop. I managed not to make any further howlers, and with each of us having 5 minutes left, had a draw offer accepted on move 43.

29 April 2013 - Club Allegro

The latest - the sixteenth - in the series of club allegros proved to be a competitive affair, as ever. There were 13 entrants - the highest since the May 2010 edition - and the early pace-setter was Gordon. He was the clear leader after two rounds. There was a spate of draws (five in all, including three in the first round - no one had more than one draw, however), and this made for a tight race. The pack gradually reeled in the early leader, and in the end the top five graders occupied the top five places. In r5 Graham played John, both on 3½/4 and with no one on 3/4, so it was effectively a playoff. Graham won, to take the title for the first time in a couple of years, while John ended up in a share of second along with Neil, Bill and me. Further down the rankings, both Roberts had good nights relative to their gradings

Congratulations to Cumbernauld!

Congratulations to Cumbernauld, who, after a 3½ - 1½ win over Badgers Brook on Monday night, are winners of Central League Division 1 with a match to spare. Their final match is against us this coming Monday, and I'll post the final league table along with the result.
